The Grand Opening of the Kirk House Garden

The Grand Opening of the Kirk House Garden

The Grand Opening of Kirk House’s Garden took place on Saturday 6th August 2016. The garden was officially opened by the Guest of Honour- Lord Mayor of Belfast, Alderman Brian Kingston. The event was connected with the Kirk House Annual Sale accompanied by a range of stalls, game and activities.

The residents of Kirk House and their relatives with the support of Kirk House staff, embarked on a series of fundraising events last year to raise funds to have their garden area transformed into a unique and really creative space. They joined efforts and through a range of fundraisers such as a sponsored walk, coffee mornings, reminiscence exhibition and a cupcake day they were able to make the dream garden become a reality.

In addition, the residents have recently undertaken a range of arts and crafts activities aimed at creating unique decorations for their newly remodelled garden, using simple objects like old wellies, tyres, pots etc. Those activities enabled them to bring back memories of their childhood and to turn the garden into a colourful and inventive area.
