At BCM, volunteers are an essential part of our story. Whether offering companionship as a befriender to an older person, lending a hand at events, or supporting behind the scenes, every volunteer helps bring dignity, hope, and practical support to those who need it most. BCM is an accredited Investor in Volunteers, delivering on our commitment to be a fair and supportive partner on your volunteering journey.

How We Welcome and Support Volunteers

Recruitment

We invite volunteers from all backgrounds and communities. Opportunities are shared on this page and local volunteering networks, with a simple application form followed by an informal conversation to explore the right fit.

Training and Induction

Every volunteer receives core training—covering safeguarding, GDPR, professional boundaries, and BCM values. Most training is accessible online, allowing for flexible, self-paced learning. Optional extras are available to help volunteers feel confident and grow in their role.

Deployment and Matching

Volunteers are matched with roles that reflect their interests and availability, from befriending and youth support to assisting in nurseries, care homes, or seasonal projects like the Christmas Toy Appeal. Each role comes with a clear description, ensuring boundaries and expectations are understood.

Ongoing Support

Volunteers are assigned a dedicated support person—either the Volunteer Coordinator or a team lead relevant to their service area. Regular check-ins, feedback, and conversations help ensure every volunteer feels informed, valued, and empowered.

Commitment to Safety and Inclusion

BCM volunteers are fully covered by our policies, training, and insurance held within our Volunteer handbook. We foster a culture of safety, fairness, and mutual respect, and ensure everyone has the tools they need to thrive.
