After 136 years of witness and outreach, the Grosvenor Hall Methodist Congregation recently took the difficult decision to close as a worshipping presence in Belfast city centre.
Amidst the undeniable sadness, there is a lot to be grateful for, and the various services and events planned in the run-up to the closing service on the 9th November, reflected that gratitude as well as being occasions to celebrate, reminisce and note the legacy that this congregation passes on.
The final week of the congregation was marked by a number of special events, and also an archival exhibition at Grosvenor hall. Superintendent Rev David Campton led members on a commemorative walk to mark the key places that the told the story of the congregation.
Then, on Remembrance Sunday, a service of closure was held for a crammed Grosvenor hall. Various participants from the congregation took part, as well as the passing on of banners to wider organisations who have been shaped by the legacy of the congregation. The congregation is now closed, although there are numerous ways for former members to stay involved with the work of the mission, including a new Friends of BCM group which will commence in 2026.
