Family and mental health Services

Introduction

Over generations of community-facing outreach, the team at BCM have come to recognise certain tipping points that can change the trajectory of a person’s life. Providing a targeted intervention at the right moment can help someone break their cycle of need, often through building positive relationships and skills, developing wider support networks and fostering good decision-making.

We therefore operate a number of secondary services for young people in areas where housing-focused work  takes place. Whilst smaller in scale, these services continue to positively impact people in need in a number of key ways. Prevention is a term that encapsulates the life long impact that our services have- setting people at risk on a better trajectory in life. This is especially true for younger people, and people responsible for young children.

Family Support Service

BCM offers free family support to young parents of children aged 0-5 (Ards & North Down) and 5-13 (Dungannon and Armagh). Services are designed to support families to thrive, across all areas of family life.

Through a mix of one to one and group-led support, we support people to deal with the causes and effects of poverty, family breakdown and issues with educational engagement amongst children. We also engage parents on their own behaviours and parenting skills, often set with group sessions.

This service currently operates in Dungannon. Our Newtownards and North Down service also works with some statutory referrals connected into our Housing Support for Young People service.

If you require support from this service, contact via your local Family Support Hub on the links below, or contact us for further guidance.

Therapeutic Counselling

BCM offers a free therapeutic counselling service for young people aged 16 to 25. This confidential service supports young people to self-manage their mental health with a holistic approach to lifestyle, emotional regulation and recognizing when anxiety depression and other forms of mental illness are at play.

This service is linked to BCM’s residential service locations for younger people, but also supports in a community setting within the Ards and North Down area.
