Supporting people facing loneliness

Be a Befriender

Could you be the friend someone is waiting for?

Right now, there are older people in our community who are simply waiting for someone to talk to. Someone to listen. Someone to spend a little time with.

People like “Annie”, who loves music, colouring on her iPad, and reminiscing about the past. Or “Pauline”, who once attended art classes and still enjoys being creative. “Sarah” finds comfort in music, while “John” enjoys sharing stories from his time working in the shipyard and going to church.

These are just a few of the people we have waiting for a befriender.  They have great stories to share.

A Little Time Can Make a Big Difference

As a volunteer befriender, you don’t need special qualifications—just kindness, patience, and a willingness to listen. Whether it’s sharing a conversation, enjoying music together, or simply being present, your time can have a real and lasting impact.

For many of the people we support, loneliness is a daily reality. A regular visit or call can bring connection, comfort, and something to look forward to
