Supporting those who need it most

Christmas 2014 was a great year as we were able to help a lot of individuals and families who were in need.

Thanks to the generosity of churches, schools, local businesses and individuals we have had another successful Christmas at Belfast Central Mission.  This year, we gave 3, 250 children and teenagers a toy parcel or gift and approximately 1, 860 families and senior citizens a food parcel.  All of the individuals and families were extremely grateful for the help they received.

Here we are and another New Year begins.  As it does, I can’t help reflecting back over all the hopes, dreams… and disappointments of New-Years gone by.  We often talk of New Year’s resolutions and the hopes that as another new year dawns, we will somehow, somewhere find the strength, the focus the increased will-power needed to achieve things that have been niggling away at us, often for significant periods of time.

This year is our 125th Anniversary; therefore we want our Christmas Eve Street Collection to be even more successful than previous years.

Our team of volunteers and staff contribute their time in order to raise funds for 'those who need it most'.  It is a great event to be a part of and involves working alongside a friendly, generous and caring team.  It is always heart-warming to see the successfulness of our traditional street collections and the generosity that is displayed.  This then makes a huge difference in the lives of families who are in need.

Here it is almost Christmas again.  I have just seen a Facebook post reminding me it is only 3.5 weeks to go.  This year seems to have disappeared at an astounding rate, and yet the statement I heard a little while ago about the fact that time travels at the same rate from one year to the next challenges me about why it all seems to pass so quickly.

Having recently come across some theories about the idea that time is actually not a constant, but can vary (not that I really understand this) maybe it really has passed more quickly!
