Making new friends doesn't always have to involve meeting people your own age. Older people need friends too, we all have old memories, but, we all have young hopes. Become a Volunteer Befriender at BCM
Could you spare just one hour a week? This could make all the difference to a lonely, isolated older person living in our community.
BCM's Befriending service aims to provide companionship and practical support to the lonely and isolated older people within the Belfast, Armagh & Dungannon areas.
BCM was delighted to welcome Claire Keatinge, Commissioner for Older People for Northern Ireland to Kirk House recently. This was a great chance for Kirk House to 'show off' and highlight why it is so different to other similar residential accommodation. After explaining her role and how she works to help older people across Northern Ireland, the Commissioner toured Kirk House with Manager Sarah Penney and heard how they are developing the Memory Wing to provide specialist dementia care.
Belfast Central Mission is part of an exciting and innovative new project which aims to improve the quality of, and access to, care and support for older people with dementia and their families in Northern Ireland. This collaborative project, called 4caring, involves three other local community organisations - the Alzheimer’s Society, Extra Care and the Northern Ireland Hospice.
Kirk House will be holding its annual sale on Saturday 31st May 2014 between 10am - 12noon. There will be a range of fun activities for the entire family to enjoy and plenty of stalls. All the money raised on the day will be for the benefit of the residents at Kirk House. Who knows you may find a bargain. There will be games, tea, coffee and scones so come along and join in the fun! Everyone is welcome.
