Housing Support for Young People

Housing Support for Young People

BCM Housing support for Young People operates in Armagh and Dungannon, as well as North Down and Ards. Working with young people aged 16-25 who are homeless, leaving care, or experiencing difficulties in relation to their tenancies.

Support is offered in a range of areas, including:

  • managing tenancy and accommodation
  • self-care and living skills
  • budgeting
  • education, training and employment and much more

Service users will be provided with a dedicated support worker, and can avail of the service for up to two years. The projects are user led and based upon the needs of the service users.

To access the service, young people must want the support of the service, and meet the eligibility of the service for which they are applying. Referrals can be made directly by the applicant, by social services, NIHE or by community and voluntary organisations.

Various groups also operate within the projects for service users to access. Previous groups have included young mothers groups, budgeting, football and short film making.

"My life was a mess before I started with the project, I didn’t care about myself or my house and I was wrecking everything. With the help from my support worker I have met new friends and have started a new course at tech and things are finally looking up for me."
"I was homeless when I first joined the project and I had no idea about how to get a house. They were able to tell me and help me with what I was doing and now I’m in temporary accommodation and hopefully soon I will have a house, my support worker is helping me with lots of things so that when I get a proper house I will know how to cope."
"They don’t shelter you from the world but teach you how to survive it independently. They show you your options, your rights and help you grow. Without the project and the staff I wouldn’t be in the same situation, financially secure and happy. I would gladly recommend them and their help to anyone."
