EAGLE Project

Improving the lives of children recently diagnosed with ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder)

The EAGLE (Embracing Autism through Guidance Love and Education) Project is a service working closely with statutory services and voluntary agencies, the project is tailored to meet the needs of individual children and their families.

ASD – Did you know?

ASD is a communication disorder which affects the way a child relates to and understands the world around them.

Because it is a Spectrum disorder it means that children can be affected to different degrees, some severely, others in more subtle ways.

All children with the condition will be affected in 3 main ways :

  • Difficulty with social relationships
  • Communication problems
  • Restricted range of behaviours, activities and interests

Who can we help?

  • Children with ASD
  • Parents and carers of children with ASD
  • Brothers and sisters of children with ASD

How can we help?

  • We can respond immediately after diagnosis has been given.
  • We can visit you and your family in your home.
  • We can listen to you.
  • We can try to help you understand your child’s difficulties.
  • We can be flexible and will endeavour to provide the support you need when you need it.
  • We will help you access support from existing agencies and organizations.

Services we provide:

The project manager – who makes contact with parents and responds to their individual issues.

The project worker – oversees individual projects within EAGLE and works directly with parents, siblings and children with ASD.

The children’s worker – one to one support for 3 hours per week to a child with ASD, accessing local community/leisure facilities and teaching necessary social/communication skills to enjoy these. This also enables parents to have quality time with each other and siblings.

EAGLE Summer Scheme – for children aged 6-9 years with ASD.

Visual Support – Strategies to help with daily living eg behaviour charts, timetables and schedules.

SIBSKLUB - for children who have a brother/sister with ASD.

Monthly Newsletter – for all families connected with EAGLE

Parent Support Group – monthly meetings give members the opportunity to meet people in a similar situation and also receive training.

Parent training in ASD – ie what is ASD; challenging behaviours; communications; the education system; difficulties in ASD and how to tell your child.

Swimming Club – weekly swimming lessons with a trained tutor. Open to children with ASD and their siblings.

EAGLE Youth Club – for children with ASD and their brothers/sisters
