Supporting those who need it most

Mentoring

Can you remember someone in your life who believed in you and encouraged you to do more or be more than you could have dreamt? Someone who was willing to go the extra mile with you because they saw potential? BUT WHAT ABOUT YOUNG PEOPLE WHO DON'T HAVE THAT SPECIAL SOMEONE?

Society is changing rapidly today and many young people no longer have the support of an extended family unit. Some have no supportive adult in their lives whom they can trust and who will encourage them to believe in themselves. They need that special someone who will listen, recognise their achievements and who can see their unique qualities and potential.

They need a Mentor.

"I can tell my mentor anything. She is so understanding. she has helped me to be more independent, forthright and outgoing. I now have goals and want to go to college and be a success"

WHAT IS A MENTOR?

"A wise and trusted adviser"

Mentoring is a voluntary, one-to-one relationship which connects suitable adults to young people. The relationship focuses on specific needs of the young person e.g. building confidence, developing social skills, with the Mentor offering honest and positive support.

BCM's Mentoring Programme addresses the needs of young adults aged 16-21 yrs who are, or have been, residents of BCM's Anderson House Supported Housing Project.

BCM Mentors will recognise not only the young persons needs but also value their dreams and aspirations.
