Anderson House Supported Housing Project

The project aims to support vulnerable young people aged 16- 21 to live independently in the community.

BCM opened the Anderson House supported housing project in Newtownards in 1993 in an attempt to address some of the difficulties facing young people leaving care. Due to its success the Anderson House project has expanded to include other houses located at:

Each of the above houses falls under the umbrella name of the Anderson House Project.

Aims:

The Anderson House Project aims to work in partnership with each young person and to offer them the opportunity to experience a gradual transition from residential, family or foster care to independent living.

Objectives:

  • To provide a safe and supportive environment.
  • To provide an environment which will promote independence.
  • To provide advice and guidance about a range of practical issues.
  • To support each young person in developing self-care skills.
  • To assist each young person to maintain family and community links.
  • To advocate on behalf of the young person if necessary.
  • To assist each young person to move to their own accommodation.

All of these projects are supported by NIHE Supporting People and the local Health & Social Services Trusts.
