Supporting those who need it most

01/09/2009 Richard's Ramblings - September

Hope is a strange thing. Without it life ceases to have any purpose and the process of living becomes a dreary affair as we plod from one day to the next. It is hope which encourages us to expect new possibilities in our lives. It is hope which instils promise into each new day. It is hope which enables us to believe that we can change, grow and develop in the ways in which we desire. It is hope which encourages us to believe and look for the best in our friends.

It seems that some degree of hope is an indispensable part of what makes us human - it is one of the things which distinguishes us and our lives from the lives of the other creatures which share our world.

If hope is so important to life in what should we hope?

Maybe the hope we have of attaining the top position in our chosen field of employment? — But for many there is not even the hope of a job at all.

Perhaps we should place our hope in the good nature of all people? — Look around and see how often it breaks down in others, let alone yourself.

Then again, maybe we can put our hope in our friendships and relationships? — Oh, how they can hurt us.

Eventually we come to the ‘hope’ that there might actually be something or someone in which we can place our hope which will not be tossed and turned by the turmoil and cut and thrust of life on this earth.

Have you found Him?
