Kirk House Annual Sale and Open Day A Big Success

The sun shone for the annual Sale and Open Day on 11 May.  People came from near and far to sample the delights, take part in the games and browse the stalls.  Everyone had a great day and a total of £1,080.15 was raised which will be used for trips and treats for the residents.

Congratulations to our Marathon Runners!

Thanks so much to all the volunteers and staff who took part in the Belfast City Marathon this year in aid of BCM.  We were deligthed to have so many supporters doing the Marathon, the Relay, the 9 Mile Walk and the Fun Run!

Kirk House Tries an Innovative New Way of Recruiting Staff

Six residents from Kirk House made up the Residents’ Forum to attend the recruitment programme on 9 April.  This took the form of group discussions with candidates, staff and residents.  There was both written and observation input from residents and staff, giving our residents the opportunity to meet and score the prospective new staff members.  It also enabled the candidates to get a feel for Kirk House, meet with the residents and put them at ease.  The fact that the candidates were in a group helped them to feel supported by each other and not isolated as our u

Lord Mayor celebrates at BCM

 

150 older people across Belfast are set to benefit from the roll out of the expanded Housing Support for Older People (HSOP) project across the city.

The project launched by Belfast Lord Mayor Gavin Robinson, provided by BCM and funded by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, helps older people live independently in their own homes by offering services such as maintenance, safety and security, as well as other practical and emotional support.

Well, it’s been too long.  Someone suggested I had taken the Winter off from my Ramblings, but the truth is, setting priorities has always been a struggle for me.  And I’m sure you can identify with me when I say that, having once let something slip by, it gets easier and easier to let the next, and the next and … well you get the drift in my thinking.

Run or walk at Belfast City Marathon on Monday 6 May 2013 in aid of Belfast Central Mission. By doing so, you will be helping us to support local people who are in need.  Isolated older people, children with autism and their families, young care leavers and many more.

BCM's Housing Support for Older People (HSOP) has been operating now since 2007 and to date we have helped approximately 250 older people to remain at home living as independently as possible.

EAGLE Masquerade Ball

Big thank you to everyone who attended or supported in anyway our recent Masquerade Ball.  It was a massive success and we can confirm that to date we have raised £4,571.76 towards the EAGLE Project! It was a night of fun, quirky entertainment and .... masks!!!
