Rounded Christianity

Should you ever find yourself in the Abbey Church on the island of Iona in Western Scotland you’ll sense that you’re entering a building which has been a house of worship for centuries. There’s a special little detail up towards the front of the church. High up in the old stone-work one of the masons who first built the abbey must have felt like having a fun day. On one of the stones he has carved, seemingly without any explanation, the figure of a monkey. Nearby, once again without any words to explain why, we find the figure of a cat.
